New Member Call for Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 128, Rye
The Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 128, Rye, is seeking new members to continue their efforts in support of patriotic programs in the Rye community. Any woman who has a family member who has served, or is presently serving, in any branch of the U.S. military, is eligible to join the Auxiliary. ("Family member" includes parent or grandparent, spouse, child or grandchild, or sibling – living or deceased). Robin Phelps Latimer, President of the Auxiliary, noted that "this is a wonderful opportunity for any woman to help us honor our veterans and maintain a spirit of patriotism that is critical to our community and our nation".
The Legion Auxiliary works in tandem with the American Legion Post 128, comprised of men and women who have themselves served in the military, to sponsor the annual Village Green services for Memorial Day each May and Veterans Day each November. In addition, Phelps Latimer has chaired the re-establishment of Rye's Memorial Day Parade, started again in 2014 after a 30-year hiatus. "We could use the talents of committed, organized women to help us in this annual tradition", she said.
The Auxiliary meets monthly on the third Thursday at 7:30 pm at the Damiano Recreation Center, 281 Midland Ave., Rye; interested individuals are invited to attend the next meeting on Thursday, February 18th. In addition to Phelps Latimer, Nancy Collins serves as Treasurer, along with Executive Board Members Mary deBarros and Noreen Graham. Inquiries are welcomed at [email protected].
Yes, Robin Latimer is the wife of New York State Senator George Latimer.
