Rye Town Park will be holding a “Classic Disco Night” event at the South Pavilion Friday, July 22 from 6 to 9:30 p.m.

Port Chester based MC/DJ John Vilasi will be running the event, which will be geared to older children and adults alike. As John puts it, “you should be dancing….YEAH!”

For those too young to remember it, disco is dance music blending funk, soul, pop, and salsa. It achieved peak popularity during the mid-1970s to the early 1980s. Well-known 1970s disco performers included Donna Summer, the Bee Gees, Boney M, KC and the Sunshine Band, The Trammps, Gloria Gaynor and Chic. Now a new generation can learn how to “Boogie Oogie Oogie” to the flames of a “Disco Inferno.”

The disco party at Rye Town Park will reach a fever pitch as the nearby Playland Amusement Park starts its fireworks at 9:15 p.m.

This event is free, and parking fees will be discounted. Parking for non-residents is $5; Resident Permit Holders pay $4; and, Resident Senior Permits are Free. The event will be held rain or shine – except In case of severe thunderstorms.

Picnicking is encouraged, and take-out food and drinks can be purchased at Seaside Johnnies restaurant. There is no rain date for this event. For further information contact Rye Town Park at 967-0965.
