There was a minor brush fire in the Rye Marshlands Conservancy on Sunday, May 21, 2017, caused by a group of kids smoking. The fire itself was minor and nothing like the multi-acre fire in the Marshlands last month (see photos).
"We had a minor fire that was evidently caused by juveniles smoking," reported Rye's Commissioner of Public Safety Michael C. Corcoran, Jr. "The call came in just before 5 pm. Rye PD detained 6 juveniles and the investigation has been turned over to the County Police."
Rye Marshlands is a 130 acre park owned and managed by Westchester County.
