Rye Lifts Water Restrictons
Rye is lifting water restrictions, but is asking residents to practice water conservation:
"The City of Rye has lifted the Water Emergency and will allow lawn irrigation to resume effective immediately. Outdoor water usage may resume including irrigation systems, sprinklers and soaker hoses.
Please note that although the reservoir levels have risen, SUEZ Water is requesting that customers continue to practice water conservation as we are approaching the summer high demand period."

Customers Encouraged to Use Water Wisely
SUEZ Westchester working in cooperation with town and city officials in Rye, Rye Brook and Port Chester, as well as the Westchester County Department of Health, are advising customers that they can resume outdoor water usage. This includes using irrigation systems, sprinklers and soaker hoses.
Lawn watering and outdoor usage in those communities had been restricted since September 2016 due to a severe drought which impacted water supplies. Customers in Rye, Rye Brook and Port Chester receive water from SUEZ which purchases its supplies from Aquarion Water Company in Connecticut.
“While rainfall has improved water supplies, the hottest months and heaviest usage periods are still ahead of us,” said Chris Graziano, vice president and general manager of SUEZ Water Westchester. “In fact, water usage can double in the summer, largely due to lawn watering. We encourage customers to practice smart lawn watering techniques which can still give them a great green lawn while using less water.”
Smart Lawn Watering Tips
• Set your lawn mower blade to at least three inches. Taller grass hold moisture better than a closely cropped lawn.
• Encourage deeper, healthier root growth through longer but less frequent watering.
• Don’t over fertilize because that increases the need for water. Use the proper fertilizer and follow manufacturer’s instructions. Visit dec.ny.gov for more information.
• Use smart irrigation controllers which use local weather data to tailor watering schedules to real-time conditions.
