Carousel at Playland is Fixable, PHOTOS

Officials said Monday they will repair the old carousel at Rye Playland that caught on fire Sunday. No timing was given as to when the carousel would be back in service. No one was hurt.

Records at RyeFire.com show the original call came in a 3:41pm Sunday as a brush fire. The revised call was made at 3:47pm as a structural fire:

A News 12 report said in part:
"Around 30 people were evacuated from the ride, and no one was injured…
Firefighters from multiple departments raced to the scene to help put out the flames and heavy smoke, that could be seen from all over the park.
Playland officials say they believe the fire initially sparked in the carousel's lighting fixtures. They say there was damage to the roof and water damage to some of the ride's mechanics. None of the horses were damaged."
