Otis Won’t Sack the Facts; Gains Access to Rye Listserve Emails
This seems to have become more about the spat between former Rye Mayor and current State Assemblyman Steve Otis and Rye Mayor Joe Sack than the actually debate over the NY State Thruway property.
In the latest, Otis gained access to the Rye listserve emails, sending the correspondence below on Friday along with a copy of his letter on the history of the Thruway property.
We invite Otis and Sack to submit columns to MyRye.com on what should be done with the NY State Thruway property including current state, recommended action and who is expected to fund any improvements. No discussion of the city listserve is required.

Subject: Update regarding Thruway property
Dear Rye Resident, The purpose of this e-mail is to provide you with factual information regarding the Thruway property before the community loses the opportunity to make the parcel available for recreation. My goal has been to get this information out to residents as quickly as possible following Mayor Sack’s June 21 e-mail. I requested that it be distributed by the City of Rye directly, using the same city system used to send out the Mayor’s letter. The Mayor and Manager refused repeated requests to distribute my letter via the City list-serve and delayed for a week my (required by law) access to the e-mail list. The links below will allow you to view the two documents related to the Thruway property issue and the controversy caused by the City’s delay in allowing you to receive this information.
What is most important is that Rye residents have access to accurate information regarding important public policy decisions. With this distribution you now have background and a factual history relating to this parcel and the broader issues affecting the community going back 30 years. Please feel free to call or write me to discuss any aspect of this issue. I hope the information will help us achieve the best results for our community. Warm regards, Steven Otis |
