Rye Schools Open Monday; Will Remain Open Until 9pm As Homework and Family Center

While many in Rye are still without power, Rye Schools will be open Monday for students. The schools will also remain open until 9pm for students and their families. In a note Sunday, Rye Superintendent Eric Byrne told families "Rye HS will remain open until 9:00 PM to serve as a homework center, charging center, and a place for families to come and be in a place with heat and electricity. The cafeteria and library/media center will remain open during this time. Our food service vendor, Chartwells, will have staff on hand to provide food for those who are not able to cook in their homes."

Dear RCSD Families, Faculty, Staff and Administrators,

I hope you are faring well in the cleanup following Friday's storm. I know that many in Rye as well as our region are still grappling with power outages. Some school districts in Northern Westchester will not be opening tomorrow due to loss of power in schools.

I have been speaking with our Mayor, Josh Cohn and our Commissioner of Public Safety, Michael Corcoran to keep abreast of the needs within the community and to offer the support of the school district. With that in mind, tomorrow evening, Rye HS will remain open until 9:00 PM to serve as a homework center, charging center, and a place for families to come and be in a place with heat and electricity. The cafeteria and library/media center will remain open during this time. Our food service vendor, Chartwells, will have staff on hand to provide food for those who are not able to cook in their homes.

I wish to thank our faculty, staff and administration for their support on Friday during the height of the storm. Our facilities and custodial staff worked tirelessly to respond to needs throughout the school district. Thanks to all of our municipal workers and first responders who have been serving the community nonstop throughout this challenge.

Our facilities will be available to our community members and all of our faculty, staff, and administration who need a warm place to be tomorrow evening. Thank you.

Best,

Eric
