Rye PD is warning of a scam where a caller pretends to be a Con Ed rep. Be careful:

Con Ed Scam 2018

DON’T BECOME A VICTIM
In one of the most common phone scams, a caller may:

● Pretend to be from Con Edison. (Your Caller ID may even display Con Edison’s name.)

● Threaten to turn off power or natural gas service to your home or business within an hour.

● Demand immediate payment – often by pre-paid debit card. For example “Green Dot” pre-paid card

Please be advised that the City of Rye Police Department has received several complaints regarding small businesses being contacted with the above scam.

Do not give your personal information over the phone and remember Con Edison will not seek payment through pre-paid cards.

If you have questions regarding your bill, contact Con Edison by using the number on the back of your utility bill or visit https://www.coned.com.

If you have been victimized, please contact the City of Rye Police Department at 914- 967-1234.
