It seems Rye always faces an early season match with the SOMERS TUSKERS, and almost always on the road. The Old Garnet doesn’t get why there is a home-game scheduling imbalance always skewed towards Somers.
Once again this year’s circus pits two legendary ringmasters ranking in the stratosphere of New York State Football Coaches. Top Tusker Tony DeMateo ranks third in NYS history with 347 wins at Roosevelt and Somers, while the Garnets’ maestro, Dino Garr, is in sixth place at 305 between Rye and Westlake.
DeMateo is the winningest of all active New York State coaches while Garr follows in second place statewide. Rye leads this budding rivalry with the Silver and Red 9-6-0 (.600) as the Garnet rumble up-county. Tuskers muster, Garnets fluster.
