The tournament is named in honor of Chris Mello, a 1994 graduate of Rye High School, who was one of the many victims of the 9/11 tragedy. The Mello family, along with friends, and Verizon colleagues of Chris’ father, Doug Mello, created a scholarship in memory of Chris.
In memory of Chris and his love of sports and his competitive spirit, a special scholarship was established. Each year, since 2002, a member of the Harrison Football Team and a member of the Rye Football Team have been awarded this scholarship. “The Game” celebrates its 90th anniversary this year. The Harrison and Rye football coaches and fellow players choose the recipients from each school. The criteria are sportsmanship, competitiveness academic achievement and leadership
Since 2002 more than $30,000 has been awarded. Monday's golf tournament will raise money for the scholarship fund. You can register to play or join the dinner and support this special cause.
