Former Rye City Mayor John Carey is gone at age 95. His granddaughter Victoria Shenoa Carey shared the news on Facebook that the former mayor, judge and UN mediator passed in the early hours of Monday, October 7th. Over 100 comments have flooded the Facebook post.

We'd describe Carey as a civic enthusiast, with a life long dedication to service, good governance and to the city of Rye.

Rest in peace.

Victoria Shenoa Carey's post:

"I know many have already heard and was waiting for an official post but It is with great sadness to announce but at 3:35 yesterday (October 7th) morning my family and I have lost my precious Grandfather, Honorable John Carey. 06/11/24-10/07/2019. My grandfather was such an amazing man who always put others first and always tried to help everyone. He fought till the very end and I’m so proud of you!! I’m not ready for the week ahead but I know my grandfather was met immediately with my Grandmother and Uncle Johnny and Uncle Vic. Just to know he is reunited with the love of his life is giving me so much comfort. It’s been a tough year but I know some how I will figure this out. Grandpa you were an amazing man, father, brother, uncle, County Court judge, Rye’s mayor, mediator with the United Nations, the list goes on and on …. Simply Amazing???????????????????????? **arrangement details to follow**"
