The Rye YMCA looked like Santa’s workshop in the weeks leading up to Christmas, with brightly wrapped toys spilling over the top of a collection box in the Y’s lobby. Rye members donated over 250 gifts—far more than expected–for children served by Port Chester’s Carver Center.
“We’re thrilled by the response to our toy drive,” commented Kathy Lynam, the Y’s Family, Camp and Child Care director. “Thanks to the generosity of our members, hundreds of children will know the excitement of ripping open their own special gift this holiday season.”

Over the years, the Rye Y has hosted several collection efforts for neighboring organizations, including children’s clothing drives for The Sharing Shelf and the collection of baby supplies for expectant mothers for Open Door Family Medical Centers. Both organizations are located in Port Chester. The Carver Center is a full-service community center offering programs and resources that meet the educational, recreational, cultural, and civic needs of children, youth, and adults.
