Rye School Evacuated Over False Gas Detector Alarm

False alarm

As if the coronavirus is not providing us all enough of headache, the Rye High School and Middle School was evacuated Tuesday afternoon after a gas detector alarm was triggered in the high school. Rye FD showed up, and no gas was detected…

Full notice from the school below:

"Dear Rye Middle and High School Parents, Faculty, and Staff –

The combined Middle and High School building was evacuated briefly this afternoon when a gas detector alarm was triggered at the High School. The Rye Fire Department responded, found no gas present, and issued the "all clear" quickly. The evacuation took place around dismissal time. It has not escaped our notice that this alarm took place exactly one week after the last false alarm. We have contacted our alarm maintenance company to ask for a complete review of the system.

Thank you for your patience; the safety of our students, faculty, and staff is always our top concern.

Sincerely,

Dr. Eric Byrne
Superintendent of Schools"
