Usually the City of Rye holds its tradition of honoring deceased veterans on Memorial Day with a ceremony on the village green in front of Rye City Hall. This year, you’ll need to sit alone or with immediate family in front of your computer or television.

Due to COVID-19, this year’s Memorial Day ceremony will be conducted virtually on Rye TV at 10:00am on Memorial Day – Monday, May 25, 2020 (and then set on re-runs throughout the day). Rye TV is viewable on Cablevision Channel 75 and Verizon Channel 39 as well as on the Internet (live and archive).

American Legion Post 128 Commander Fred de Barros will lead the virtual ceremony. Rye City Mayor Josh Cohn and County Executive George Latimer will speak. Legionnaire Terry McCartney will read the roll of honor. Post Adjutant Tim Moynihan will read the Gettysburg Address. Robin Latimer will sing patriotic songs and Rev. Kate Malin will lead the invocation.

The parade, essay contest and Boys/Girl Scout recognition have been cancelled.
