Otis Looks to Mail-In Ballots and Plans to Fight Through November Regardless of Primary Outcome

It looks like Steve Otis has a lot of fight left in his re-election bid. Otis is looking to fight off a challenge from Meg Cameron. As previously reported, Cameron has a very wide margin with 58% of votes as of Wednesday afternoon based on 3,569 votes cast and counted.

But these are strange times.

In a note to supporters Wednesday, Otis sees a two front fight left for the 91st State Assembly district. Over 10,000 mail-in ballots will be counted by early July. And regardless of the primary outcome on the Democratic line, Otis indicated to his supporters, and confirmed to MyRye.com he will compete in the fall on the Working Families Party and Independence Party lines.

In the note to supporters, Otis said “I look forward to the complete count of all the votes cast in the primary and to the general election—where I am also running on the Working Families Party and Independence Party lines—and to continuing effective knowledgeable representation to the communities on the Sound Shore.”

Cameron has yet to respond to our request for comment.

“Dear Friends,

I want to express my appreciation to all those who support my re-election to the State Assembly.  The votes available today represent only about 25% of the votes to be counted. The majority of votes—over 10,000 mail-in ballots requested by voters for this primary—will be counted in early July. I look forward to the full count of all those who cast ballots.

I am very appreciative of the tremendous support of community leaders, advocacy groups, labor, human rights, reproductive choice, environmental, education and social justice groups that unanimously supported this campaign, and by the volunteers who shared their support with friends and voters.  I thank them, and the donors to my campaign, for their generous help.

My campaign focused on my record of service and results for Westchester and New York State.  I look forward to the complete count of all the votes cast in the primary and to the general election—where I am also running on the Working Families Party and Independence Party lines—and to continuing effective knowledgeable representation to the communities on the Sound Shore.
