We wanted to share a few more 9-11 thoughts and memories that came across our desk  since Friday.

This New York Times piece by Corey Kilgannon was referenced by NY State Senator Shelley Mayer in her comments at the Rye virtual 9-11 ceremony on Friday. Written on September 23rd, 2001, just after the attacks, it talks of the deep impact the attacks had on Rye, and opens with a scene at the Rye Grill and Bar. It is devastatingly sad.

Ten years later, ESPN writer Ian O’Connor wrote about the loss of Chris Mello, and how his loss still brings grief every day to his family. Mello was a young venture analyst and was on American Flight 11 that day. In high school Mello was the team captain for football, and Rye Football Coach Dino Garr recounts his leadership in school and his own grief around the tragedy.

Finally, Rye resident Alison Relyea, who works as the director of education and programming at the Rye Historical Society, wrote a recent piece on her reflections on 9/11. It is a well told story of her experience of 9-11 that will also make you recall and reflect on your own experiences that day and the days that followed.

Never forget.

  1. I have lived in Rye since 1999. I worked in downtown Manhattan on 9/11 and saw many things I will never forget.
