Rye Native Garden Part of Westchester Pollinator Garden Tour This Sunday

Jay Archer's The Secret Garden of Celestial Happiness Rye, NY

A Rye native plant garden is one of fifty gardens to be showcased as part of the Westchester Pollinator Garden Tour this Sunday, September 13th. The gardens are open to everyone at no charge.

The Rye garden is the home of Jay Archer, founder and owner of Green Jay Landscaping. “Jay’s property is a stunning example of a native and chemical free garden as Rye’s only stop on the tour,” said Patti Capparelli, chair of the Rye Sustainability Committee. “RSC would like to add more gardens on the Long Island Sound side of the county for next year’s tour including a number of new gardens located in historic and prominent sites in town.”

The garden is named The Secret Garden of Celestial Happiness and represents a complete landscape renovation – the entire backyard lawn was removed. The design is based in ecological principles, and is a model of biodiversity, resource conservation and designed for pollinators. It features include a native plant woodland garden, rain gardens, pollinator gardens, a constructed fishpond, waterfall and stream, and a wetland boardwalk tour.

Archer’s garden is located at 330 Park Avenue, adjacent to Beaver Swamp Brook and on the Rye-Harrison town line. Social distancing and masks are required, and his garden is open the entire tour day: morning (10am-1pm) and afternoon (1-4pm). Visitors must follow COVID-19 restrictions by wearing a mask and social distancing.

The full list of gardens can be accessed here. The garden tour is produced by the Healthy Yards initiative and Bedford 2020.
