Many in Rye know The Osborn senior living community along the Boston Post Road with its beautiful 56-acre campus. In this new normal, The Osborn has placed a priority on health and safety, while still enriching life with beautiful spaces – indoors and out – and offering fine dining, an active lifestyle, and healthcare for a lifetime.

What does all this mean during a global health crisis?

The Osborn broadcasts its own internal cable channels with movies, virtual exercise classes, trivia games, daily schedules of outdoor events, even religious services and entertainment programming (plays, concerts, lectures) to help keep residents connected and engaged. There is also an extra effort to work with residents and families to help everyone connect virtually for visits – even when there have been State-imposed restrictions on in-person visitation.

“I feel safe at The Osborn because of all of the intelligent decisions Matt Anderson [the facility’s CEO] made. He listened to experts and put changes in place that were best for keeping everyone safe at The Osborn. It obviously worked, because we are all healthy!,” said Janet Chark, a longtime Rye resident who moved to The Osborn.

“We lived in Rye for 52 years, living here since 1968. Coming from Oakland Beach Avenue, I have been neighbors with The Osborn ever since moving to Rye. Before living here, I often would come to events that were open to the public, even attending mass. I also had friends that already lived on campus and would often come to dinner. There was absolutely no question where I was going! My favorite thing about The Osborn is all the people here. They are outgoing and friendly – it’s a joy to know them!”

Chark is one of the twenty-five percent of Osborn residents who lived in Rye prior to moving into The Osborn or who still have family in Rye. It is an easy transition with friends, family, favorite restaurants, shopping and familiar parks and recreation nearby.

“Many Rye residents come to The Osborn where they can be active, engaged and live independently without all the responsibility of home ownership,” said CEO Matt Anderson, who has worked at The Osborn for twenty-two years while raising his own family in Rye. “They enjoy the peace of mind knowing if their needs change we are here for them with varying healthcare options such as assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, outpatient rehabilitation and Osborn Homecare.”

The Osborn has an array of independent living offerings for active adults. You can have a move-in ready, hotel like residence in a garden home or an apartment with up to three bedrooms.

“We feel very safe and secure here at The Osborn,” said Dave Florence, who lives at The Osborn with his wife Michelle. “Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, everyone here has been very careful; both residents and staff.”

“We have lived in Rye for over 50 years,” continued Florence. Our house burned down on November 15, 2019 and that was devastating. We were so lucky that we were able to move into The Osborn in December. After living in Rye for this long, we have so many friends, connections and roots here, it was the perfect choice for us.”

Florence continues “During the lockdown, we were happy to have everything we needed right there at The Osborn. And of course, the food here is fabulous.”

Residents actively engage in The Osborn’s WellSpring program that offers an array of programming around intellectual, social, physical, environmental, occupational, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Time can be spent in exercise classes, at the fitness center or indoor pool or intellectual pursuits such as discussion groups, college classes, three on-campus libraries, guest speaker events, and concerts.

There are 188 independent living units including 40 garden homes, 96 assisted living apartments, 84 private skilled nursing beds and 13 home-like memory care residences at The Osborn.
