Boys Varsity Soccer Tops Pelham in OT at Nugent

Tuesday night’s goal scorers (Jonas van Beurden #7 and Zach Levitt #14)

Rye Boys Varsity Soccer topped Pelham in overtime at Nugent Stadium 2-1. It is one win on election day all Rye voters can unite around.

“Zach Levitt volleyed home the match winner in the 89th minute to life Rye in overtime to a 2-1 win over Pelham,” said Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Jared Small. “Levitt’s golden goal came after Rye had brought significant pressure in the first overtime. Rye had opened up the scoring midway through the first half with a Jonas van Beurden strike off of a well executed corner kick from Michael Desmond. Pelham equalized shortly into the second half on a corner kick of their own.”

Small continued “We were really thrilled to come out on a top of a game that was truly even. We had the better first 20 minutes, Pelham was on the front foot for the next 40, and I think we finished strong in the final 20 minutes of regular time and the 9 minutes of extra time. This was a match that either team could have won and ultimately I think our player rotation (we used 20 players in tonight’s match) helped us have the fresher legs in the final minutes.”

Rye moves its season to 5-0-2.
