Nearly 300 Thanksgiving Meals Delivered to Homebound Seniors by Operation Pass the Gravy

Operation Pass the Gravy, a local effort started by residents Lynn Halpern and Colleen Margiloff, delivered nearly 300 Thanksgiving meals to homebound seniors for the holiday this past Thursday.

The meals were delivered to Kingsport Housing for the Elderly, Sister Anne Mary Regan Residence for Women, Hope Community Service, Don Bosco and individual Rye residents in need. Volunteers also delivered leftovers to a men’s shelter in Stamford.

“What I loved most about this initiative is that it gave people various easy ways to help out on a day that so many of us usually look forward to,” said one of the organizers Colleen Margiloff. “It turned this feeling of missing out on a beloved holiday into a sense of gratitude. Our bucket was filled by helping others, not necessarily by being with others.”

Thirty one people signed up to cook meals, seventeen people picked up meals and drove them to various destinations and forty three people donated funds for meals.

Margiloff and Halpern are already considering what they can do around the Christmas holiday.
