Local Races Impacting Rye Go to Dems

While the national election remains uncalled Wednesday morning, local races impacting Rye residents have gone to the Democratic candidates:

  • Steve Otis, NY State Assembly, 91st District. Otis ran unopposed after a primary challenge. NYS Board of Elections data as of 8am Wednesday shows Otis with 67.1% of ballots cast. Thirty two point six percent of ballots where left blank.

Shelley Mayer NYS Senate 37th 11-04-2020

  • Shelley Mayer, NY State Senate, 37th District. Mayer declared via Twitter just after 7am Wednesday saying “Thank you for your support and our victory! Honored to continue to serve the people of our 37th SD!” NYS Board of Elections data as of 8am Wednesday shows Mayer with 53.84% of ballots cast versus 38.84% for challenger Liviu B. Saimovici, MD. Seven point two four percent of ballots were left blank.

Congressman Jamaal Bowman NY-16 11/3/2020

  • Jamaal Bowman, US Congressional Representative in NY-16. Bowman declared just before 11pm Tuesday night saying on Twitter: “Wow. I’m so humbled to be the next Representative of #NY16. Thank you so much. I’m ready to get to work to disrupt the status quo and deliver for our families. Hold me accountable. Push me and my colleagues. I’m going to need you in Congress with me. There’s so much work to do.”  NYS Board of Elections data as of 8am Wednesday shows Bowman with 67.84% of ballots cast versus Patrick McManus of the Conservative Party with 13.89%. Eighteen point one one percent of ballots were blank.
  • Mondaire Jones, US Congressional Representative in NY-17. No apparent declarations on social media or elsewhere yet, but NYS Board of Elections data as of 8am Wednesday shows Mondaire Jones with 50.16% of ballots cast versus 36.69% for Republican challenger Maureen McArdle-Schulman. Three minor party candidates soaked up a combined 5.54% of the ballots and 7.35% of ballots were left blank (Imagine being defeated by “blank”…!).
