Varsity Girls Soccer Blanks White Plains 4-0 at Nugent, Advances
Varsity Girls Soccer blanked White Plains 4-0 at Nugent on Thursday. The team played a very composed game of soccer against visiting White Plains to advance to the semi final in the regional tournament, advancing its overall season to 9-1-1.
“Reilly Traynor was able to put the Garnets ahead off a perfect pass from Meredith Tutun with only 25 seconds to play in the first half,” said Varsity Girls Soccer Coach Rich Savage. The Garnets game out string in the second half with a great defensive effort from freshman Sage Ruttenberg. She was able to help Rye attack from the defensive end. Striker Annabelle Thomas had an outstanding defensive steal and managed to take on three Tigers defenders before hitting a 20 Yard rocket shot in the upper left hand corner to put Rye up by two goals.
Reilly finished the scoring off with another perfect feed from senior Captain Meredith Tutun.
Bell Jackson was back in the net for the Garnets after being out with an ankle injury to pull the shut out. Rye advances to the semi final where they will host Pelham on Saturday at 11:00 am at Nugent Stadium.
