Girls Varsity Soccer MVP: Senior Captain Meredith Tutun
Each day this week, MyRye.com has featured a varsity team MVP from the fall 2020 sports season. The MVPs have been selected by each coach. A big MyRye.com congratulations to all the MVPs.
The Girls Varsity Soccer MVP for the fall 2020 season is Senior Captain Meredith Tutun. Tutun is a four year starting player for Rye High School Girls’ Varsity team. During her 4 years in the program, Meredith has helped the team win four league titles, two Section 1 semi-final appearances, a final Section 1 title game appearance, and finished her career with the Southern Westchester Large School title.
Meredith completed her senior year with nine assists and three goals, helping the Garnets to achieve a 11 – 1- 1- record. “Most impressive is the ability for Meredith to play multiple positions on the field,” said Girls Varsity Coach Rich Savage. “Meredith would always start the game off as an outside midfield player. However, when the team needed some more offense, Meredith was moved up to play the striker position and when they needed to hold onto a lead, Meredith would move back to the defensive line.”
Often times, Meredith would also be marked by opposing teams. With her speed and tenacity it made it too difficult to mark Meredith and she was able to create scoring opportunities for her teammates. Meredith will be continuing her soccer career next year at Williams College.
