The Rye school district announced Wednesday evening that all Rye schools will be closed for in-person and remote learning on Thursday due to the expected snowfall.
On social media yesterday schools boss Eric Byrne said “Snow days mean snow angels, sledding, snow forts, snowball fights and catching snowflakes on your tongue.” Former head of the Board of Education Karen Belanger added “And helping your parents shovel!”
Notice:
Dear RCSD Community,
Due to the projected snowfall associated with tonight’s storm, all Rye schools will be closed for in-person and online learning tomorrow, Thursday, December 17. Our children have missed out on many things because of the pandemic and I do not believe that they should miss out on a snow day. For many of our younger students, this will be their first-ever snow day.
Some of the greatest childhood and family memories are created on snow days. A snow day means snow angels, sledding, snow forts, snowball fights, building snow people, catching snowflakes on your tongue and drinking lots of hot chocolate. Snow days aren’t meant to include screen time.
Enjoy the snow and be safe.
Dr. Eric Byrne
Superintendent of Schools
