In Memory: Kathleen M. “Kathy” Rupel (O’Shea), Age 68
Kathleen M. “Kathy” Rupel (O’Shea), 68, of Monticello passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021. Kathy was born October 30, 1952, in Rye, NY to the late David and Barbara O’Shea. She married Mike Rupel on January 29, 1978 in South Bend.
She is survived by her husband, Mike Rupel; brothers, Kevin O’Shea (Marietta, GA) and Sean O’Shea (White, GA); and sisters-in-law, Jennifer O’Shea (White, GA) and Betty Rupel (South Bend). Kathy is also survived by a nephew, Corey O’Shea (Fuquay-Varina, NC) and three nieces, Erin O’Shea (Atlanta, GA), Caitlin O’Shea (Charlotte, NC), and Shannon O’Shea (Atlanta, GA). Kathy is also survived by many very special extended family members and dear friends.
Kathy graduated from Marian High School in Mishawaka in 1971. She then earned her BS degree from Indiana University-South Bend where she was a member of the first graduating class of the Criminal Justice program. Kathy went on to earn a Paralegal degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL. Kathy worked as a Paralegal for many years while along the way becoming an accredited Real Estate agent.
Kathy enjoyed spending time in Manasoto Key, Florida, and the condo she and Mike shared in Keystone, Colorado. Kathy also enjoyed the many trips made to Beau Rivage in Louisiana. Let’s just say she was a “winner”! While an IU grad, Kathy did share her loyalties to Mike’s alma mater Purdue University as a staunch supporter of the University and The John Purdue Club.
Before retiring Kathy was an outside sales representative for Stationary Express, formerly Main Street Computers in Monticello. Kathy took pride in meeting and exceeding the needs of her customers and for that matter of all those she touched in her life. Kathy was a steady and powerful voice for her family and her community. Her convictions, whether personal or for the greater community demanded and received respect.
A small family service will take place at Riverview Cemetery in South Bend. Memorial contributions in Kathy’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
