In Memory: Cedric Redman Philcox, Age 90
Cedric Redman Philcox, 90, passed peacefully on February 12, 2021 at The Brookdale Assisted Living facility in St. Augustine, FL. Born October 16, 1930 in Kent, England, he was the son of the late Cecil and Phyllis Philcox of Beckenham, England.
Cedric lost his wife of 62 years, Patricia, to cancer in 2017. He is survived by his two sons; Christopher and James of St. Augustine, FL; daughter, Mandy and husband Carl of Ellicott City, MD and five grandchildren, David Hansen of Morgantown, WV, Scott of Richmond, VA and Devon, Skye and Andrew Philcox of St. Augustine, FL; two great-grandchildren, Michael and Lillian Hansen of Morgantown, WV.
Cedric and his family moved to Rye, New York from England in June, 1968. From there, his career took the family to Orchard Park, NY, Kendall Park, NJ and Richmond, VA. Cedric pursued a successful career in mechanical engineering and traveled the world in his early working years selling steam turbines for power generation stations from America and Europe to the Middle East and Russia.
Working with English Electric in the early days, he was invited to race the English channel annually and realized his love for sailing. He owned many different boats throughout his life and after retiring from Asea/Brown Boveri “ABB” in 1991 he sold the house and purchased a 50′ ketch. For six years he made the boat his home and along with his late wife Patricia, they cruised the Bahamas and the east coast with family and friends joining in to make up the crew.
Cedric devoted his life to the family and worked tirelessly to provide wonderful homes in many different states. He put all his children through college and always provided fun, memorable and adventurous holidays.
As a specialized engineer, he was highly respected by both his coworkers and clients. As a proud Captain onboard ship, he was an energetic and tireless helmsman. With his sharp wit and love of adventure, he brought entertainment and joy to many and all.
Thank you to our wonderful friends who have been there for the family in so many ways during this difficult time. The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice for the excellent care Cedric received. Memorial donations may be made to Northeast Florida Community Hospice.
