Principal of Rye High School Resigns

Derek Schuelein Rye High School Principal - at desk

Unrelated to rumors circulating earlier this week, the Principal of Rye High School, Dr. Derek Schuelein, is resigning. He has already left the building, taking a leave of absence between now and the end of the school year, when the resignation will become effective.

Schuelein was hired last fall from Rye Brook, where he was Principal of Blind Brook High School since 2018. Rye schools boss Eric Byrne announced Schuelein’s departure Thursday afternoon. The school anticipates announcing an interim principal next week.

Dear RCSD Community,

Dr. Derek Schuelein recently advised the District that he intends to resign his position as Principal of Rye High School at the end of the school year to pursue other professional opportunities.

Dr. Schuelein has requested a personal leave of absence through the date of his resignation which has been granted by the District. Dr. Schuelein’s resignation and request for a personal leave of absence are not in any way related to the recent rumors disseminated in the community, which, as stated in an earlier communication this week, are completely false.

The District has taken immediate steps to find a highly-qualified individual to serve as our High School Principal on an interim basis. We anticipate making an announcement next week.  For any support needed at the High School, please contact Ms. Suzanne Short [contact information removed by MyRye.com] or Dr. Robert Zegarelli [contact information removed by MyRye.com]. Thank you.

Eric Byrne, Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools
