To celebrate Arbor Day, and to honor the memory of life-long resident of Rye Emanuela (Mannie) Riccio, the City of Rye planted and dedicated a linden tree in downtown Purchase Street Friday morning.

Mannie Riccio passed on April 1, 2016 at the age of 97. She graduated from Rye High School in 1937 and worked for Suzanne Gedney Real Estate on Purchase Street in Rye as an insurance and real estate agent. After Ms. Gedney’s death, Ms. Riccio purchased what is now the Woodrow Jewelers Building from Ms. Gedney’s estate.

The linden tree planted on Purchase Street today is in front of the Woodrow Jewelers Building at 21 Purchase Street. Riccio was the aunt of Councilman Richard Mecca’s wife.
