Archivist Joins Rye Historical Society

Rye Historical Society archivist, Jake Griffith-RosenbergerThe Rye Historical Society has hired an archivist, Jake Griffith-Rosenberger.

Griffith-Rosenberger will work out of the Knapp House Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. He has his work cut out.

The Rye Historical Society serves as the official archivist for the City of Rye in all its past forms. Its Knapp House houses a collection of over 25,000 documents including police reports, maps, photos, books, manuscripts, census data, real estate deals, government reports and other historical documentation.

The collection also includes the Parsons Family Papers, an important collection of papers from the late 19th and early 20th centuries from John E. Parsons (patriarch and prominent NY lawyer), Herbert Parsons (a U.S. Congressman), his wife Elsie Clews Parsons (a prominent anthropologist) and John Parsons (prominent role in intelligence during WWII). The Society also has letters from John Quincy Adams to his son in college.

Griffith-Rosenberger recent professional experience includes Archival Assistant at Dollar Back in Pittsburgh and Digital Imaging Technician at Drexel University College of Medicine. He graduated summa cum laude from (the very excellent) Kenyon College with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology, and most recently completed a Masters in Library and Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh. He has extensive experience in archival processing and management as well as collections management.
