Dear RCSD Community,

As many of you know, the District’s Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, Sherri Goffman, is retiring at the end of the school year after five years of service to the District. Sherri first came to Rye as the Interim Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction in 2016. She has greatly expanded the District’s professional learning efforts and curriculum development and will be greatly missed, but we wish her all the very best as she heads off to enjoy retirement.

Dr. Patricia Murray

Following an extensive, thorough search, I am happy to announce that I am recommending that the Board of Education approve the appointment of Dr. Patricia Murray as the District’s new Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment at tonight’s Board of Education meeting. Dr. Murray would assume her position on July 1.

Dr. Murray comes to Rye from the Bronxville Union Free School District where she has served as the Principal of the Bronxville Elementary School since 2014.  In this position, she oversees instruction for  grades K-5 for nearly 700 students. Prior to working in Bronxville, she was the Assistant Principal of Putnam Valley Elementary School in Putnam Valley, NY, for six years. She began her career as a middle school mathematics teacher and elementary teacher in Randolph, Massachusetts. She also spent several years as an elementary school teacher at Public School 11 in Manhattan.

Dr. Murray has a B.A. in Education from the University of Michigan, an M.A. in Elementary Education from New York University, and an Ed.D. from Fordham University. Her dissertation was entitled, “Instructional Coaching: A Method for Shifting Teacher Professional Practice.” Dr. Murray, her husband Tom, and their two daughters live in Chappaqua, NY.

Many thanks to all of the teachers, parents, staff developers, support staff, and administrators who participated in the search process. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Murray to the RCSD family.

Sincerely,

Eric Byrne, Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools
