Bowman Banking on Bringing Bridge Bucks
Rep. Jamaal Bowman (NY-16) is banking on bringing big bridge bucks to Rye. As part of “member designated projects” reps can submit local projects for federal funding. In this case, Bowman works with the County and Rye guy George Latimer to decide on the big projects that need the big bucks.
One of Bowman’s requests is for $11,416,000 for the NYS Department of Transportation (DOT) to fund I-287 bridge deck replacements. The DOT describes the project as “Replacement of the bridge decks on two structures that carry Interstate 287 over the Metro North Railroad and Midland Avenue in the City of Rye. The proposed work will preserve and prolong the service life of these existing structures and help maintain their reliability and integrity to assure the continued safety of the traveling public.”
While adjacent to, this project is not part of The Last Mile project that continues to snarl I-95 and the I-287 interchange in Rye in traffic. “Next we wait to receive approval on our requests from the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee,” Bowman’s Communications Director Georgia Parke told MyRye.com. “They’ll meet over the next few months to determine which ones ultimately receive funding.”
Bowman has submitted more than $300 billion in total federal funding requests on behalf of constituents in NY-16.
