Boys Varsity Lacrosse Drives Over Tappan Zee 16-6
Rye Boys Varsity Lacrosse drove over Tappan Zee 16-6, winning the season opener at home.
“To start the game Liam Hurley dodged from behind the net at X, absorbed 2 checks and scored 21 seconds into the first quarter,” said Rye Boys Varsity Lacrosse Coach Steve Lennon. “This sparked the energy that led us to an 8-0 1st quarter run.”
The bulk of the scoring for Rye came from Liam Hurley (5 goals, 2 assists), Owen Kovacs (5 goals, one assist), and Kian McCarthy (4 goals). Midfielder Caden Whaling (2 assists) was drawing double and triple teams, which allowed other players to find openings and put the ball in the net. The defense was anchored by strong play from Thomas Gianetti and Carter Barford who both ended the game with 6 ground balls. Jack Garnet finished the game with 7 saves, including one point blank save with a 1 on 1 in the 4th quarter.
