In Memory: Sherly Ann Day-Bernthal, Age 91
Sherly Ann Day-Bernthal passed away at home in her own bed with no pain supported by loved ones on March 27, 2021 with great dignity and grace. Born in Manhattan, New York City, on January 3, 1930.
Her childhood was spent in Rye, New York where she attended school and graduated from Rye High School where she was not only voted Most Popular & Best Date, but also Most Misunderstood! Her training as a nurse was ended to become a wife and mother.
She had five sons: J.A., Thomas, James, Matthew, Andrew, and one grandson, Nicholas. Thomas and James have predeceased her. In the early 70’s, Sherly took her two youngest sons to the Syracuse area to restart her professional life. Beginning her career in sales at the Flah’s department store, she later sold advertising at WONO, Syracuse’s classical radio station.
Most of her business life she worked as a real estate agent in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida area where she lived for 25 years before coming back to Syracuse to become the wife of the theatrical producer Murray Bernthal, her “Best” husband. Sherly spent the last 10 years of her life at The Nottingham in Jamesville, continuing to perform volunteer work, being an active church member, and generally a stylish and incredibly social, “bright light” to all those around her.
