Local Artist Ellen Liman to Exhibit at Rye Library
This fall, local Rye artist Ellen Liman will exhibit her Rye Mill Pond paintings at the Rye Free Reading Room from October 3rd through October 30th, 2021. Liman has painted for over 30 years from her studio on Rye’s Kirby Mill Pond.
The exhibition and sale will benefit the Rye Free Reading Room. Liman says, “It is a small token of appreciation for the opportunity to be inspired by scenic Rye.”
A graduate of Barnard College, Liman also studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, the Arts Students League, Columbia University, and the National Academy of Design. Known for her color-filled canvasses, her paintings are in many private and corporate collections, and she has exhibited in many galleries.
If the name Liman is familiar to the reader, it may be because of her late husband Arthur Liman. Artur Liman was an accomplished attorney who was a partner at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. He was probably best known for his role as chief counsel for the Senate’s investigation of the Iran-Contra Affair. Those of an earlier generation may remember his role as chief counsel of the New York State Special Commission on the Attica Prison uprising.
