Rye Little League 12U Team Defeats Sectional Champs to Advance
The Rye 12U Little League Tournament Team staged a dramatic comeback from a 2-0 deficit, including 2 critical runs in the final inning, to defeat defending Sectionals Champ Stony Point 3-2 last night.
Luke Ontaneda and Paul Heintz combined to give up only 4 hits on the mound, and both made key offensive contributions as well, including Heintz singling home the tying run with two outs in the last inning.
The game featured terrific defensive plays by numerous Rye Little Leaguers, none better than a lunging stab of a Stony Point line drive by 2nd baseman Luke McKay to keep the game 2-1 after 5.
The win puts Rye in the sectional finals on Sunday afternoon in Pine Bush, NY.
