American Legion Post 128 with $20K in Community Donations
The Rye American Legion Post 128 has made recent donations totaling nearly $20,000 to the Veterans Administration Hospital and Rye Recreation.
Rye Post 128 Commander Fred de Barros recently presented a check for $15,000 to Dawn Schall, medical director at Montrose Veterans Administration Hospital in Montrose, New York. In her thank you letter, Dr. Schall writes to the Rye Post, “Thanks to you, VA Hudson Valley Health Care System Veterans will have additional tools to support their health and well-being. Your donation will fund activities for Veterans in recovery, provide comfort to Veterans during their health journeys, and allow us to address the specific needs of our local Veterans population.“
Rye Post 128 also made local community donations to Rye Recreation of $2,000 and $2,500 for summer camp scholarships and recreation league basketball uniforms respectively.
“Rye Recreation is thankful for the continuing support of Legion Post 128,” said Sally Rogol, superintendent of Rye Recreation. “Contributions enhance our ability to offer camp and program financial assistance to members of the community as well as supplement the cost of reversible jerseys for more than 150 boys and girls in our basketball programs.”
“These donations to fellow veterans and the community align to the foundational pillars of the American Legion,” said Rye Post Commander de Barros. “We are a very fortunate Post to be able to support our community and fellow veterans alike.”
Nearly all these funds were generated through Rye Post 128 Legionnaire Terry McCartney’s Memorial Day golf fund raiser. “I organize a golf fundraiser each year on Memorial Day at Rye Golf Club,” said McCartney. “This past Memorial Day we had over 70 players and 60 sponsors who participated in the tournament which generated $12,070. We are proud the Post is using the funds for veterans and the Rye community.”
The Rye American Legion Post 128 meets each third Thursday of the month at Rye Recreation at 7:30pm and is always looking for new members.
