Hurricane Henri Warning from City
The City of Rye issued a resident warning in regards to Hurricane Henri late Saturday afternoon:
Earlier today, Henri was upgraded to a Category 1 Hurricane. The effects of the storm will be felt overnight with the storm entering the Sound Shore by early Sunday morning.
At present, a storm surge warning has been issued, with a flood watch beginning at 8 pm tonight through 8 pm Monday. We are expecting 3-6 inches of rain and winds approaching 70 mph.
The City is making emergency preparations for the accompanying flooding, rain and likely power outages. Beginning tonight, additional public safety and public works staff is being mobilized.
Please secure all outdoor furnishings and other objects that could be impacted by the high winds. All cars should be removed from City streets. If you park in low lying areas (Highland/Cedar lot etc.), please move your car to the main MTA lot. Parking enforcement in City lots will be suspended until Tuesday.
Pursuant to a State of Emergency Declaration, all local travel is prohibited between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm on Sunday.
