Where I Work showcases people who work in Rye. The feature is inspired in part by exploring how the pandemic has impacted our work environment and part by wanting to understand how and where people work inside the City of Rye.

Siller: For the past 12 years, I have mostly worked on the third floor of the old Parsons’ estate carriage house at 873 Boston Post Road. My primary desk is versatile: I can sit or stand. During the summer, I often work from the deck of a kayak, co-leading our Paddle Adventure Camp for teenagers.

Describe your desk and office.

Siller: Typical items on my desks may include: a pile-up of various project files; my laptop and monitor; grant proposals and reports; bills; a can of La Croix (lime); a highlighter (yellow); a bilge pump; a walkie-talkie; a bright, orange “Indestructible Field Book”.

Inspirational/sentimental treasures I keep in view while working: 14 teenaged kayakers; the playground (my office window overlooks it); a picture of my son at the Nature Center when he was small; my 2019 John Carey Award For Human Rights and my leadership awards from the Rye Sustainability Committee and The Garden Club of America; a copy of David Sobel’s Nature Preschools and Forest Kindergartens; a small printout of Hilma af Klint’s Group IV, The Ten Largest, No. 3, Youth; a bundle of dried sage; my agenda; the horizon.
