Going Up: Library Awarded $11K State Grant
Going up! The Rye Free Reading Room has been awarded $11,260 through the NYS Library Construction Grant Program to upgrade and rebuild the existing elevator to improve access to the library.
State Senator Shelley B. Mayer and Assemblyman Steve Otis announced the funding was secured from the NYS Library Construction Grant program’s 2021-22 $34 million budget for local libraries across the state.
“Our local libraries do a fantastic job of keeping us informed and connected to each other,” said Senator Shelley B. Mayer. “These grants allow our libraries to make needed improvements to their facilities and better serve their communities.”
“For many years the NYS Library Construction Grant program has been an important funding source for local libraries in Westchester,” said Assemblyman Steve Otis. “The program is essential in protecting property taxpayers and library budgets by helping local libraries fund needed capital projects with state assistance.”
Rye Free Reading Room Director Chris Shoemaker was pleased to have the additional funds for improvements. “The New York State Library Construction Grants play an essential role in enhancing and expanding library services,” said Shoemaker. “Communities reap the benefit in both the short term and long term, as libraries are able to plan construction projects, increase energy efficiency, and make welcoming public space available to all.”
