Over 100 Volunteers at Library Clean-Up
Over 100 volunteers came out to assist the Rye Free Reading Room with clean-up efforts. Volunteers were members of the auxiliary board, parents, and students. The Library’s downstairs children’s room was destroyed when Ida caused the Blind Brook to overrun its banks.
“It was wonderful to see how many people emailed and stopped by to help out,” said the Library’s Director Chris Shoemaker. “Libraries are beloved community resources, and the outpouring of support demonstrated that to me all over again. Thank you to everyone!”
The volunteers transcribed the barcodes from the ruined books, cleaned off storage bins, and hauled out garbage. They also brought all the remaining children’s books from the lower level to the first floor.
The library is currently looking for volunteers to assist with its book sale on September 18th and 19th on the Village Green.
