Garnet Tennis Doubles Team Shines 5th in States
There is double the Garnet pride as the Section 1 Doubles champion team of Charlotte Ausfahl and Juliette Stone finished fifth Statewide competition.
“In the final match of their high school tennis career, the Section 1 Doubles champion team of Charlotte Ausfahl and Juliette Stone used their experience and attacking net play to come back from down a set defeat the #2 seeded pair from Roslyn 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 and finish 5th in the State,” said Rye Girls Varsity Tennis Coach Anthony Campbell.
Looking to end the tournament on a high note after losing the quarterfinals to their rivals, and Section one “teammates” from Byram Hills, the senior captains won both of their consolation bracket matches to end the weekend having won four matches and lost just the one.
At States, Ausfahl and Stone won their first two matches against teams from Dix Hills, and Syracuse, before losing versus Byram Hills in the quarterfinals. They then defeated a young pair from the Schenectady area as well as #2 seed from Roslyn. The two senior captains first played as doubles team in the season finale against Harrison where the helped secure the League title. They then ran the table in the Section 1 tournament winning 5 straight matches. Overall in the last few weeks they were 10-1.
“A tremendous high school career finish for two amazing girls,” said Coach Campbell.
