Over the past eight decades the Rye Garnets have owned the Pelham Pelicans by a historical tally of 43-5-2 (.896). The Blue and White nest as the opponent that has played Rye third-most after Harrison and Eastchester and just ahead of Sleepy Hollow- all teams are vestiges as charter members of both the SWIAC (Southern Westchester Interscholastic Athletic Conference) and the Central Westchester League (CWL).
Like a phoenix these Pelicans have risen from the ashes of the Independent League, a cross-classification league designed to bootstrap struggling football programs. And what a turnaround it has been with Pelham entering tonight’s tilt at the absolute peak of their renaissance with an undefeated 6-0 record.
Pelham swoops into Nugent for the 51st renewal of a great football rivalry dating back to 1952. rye and Pelham have fought for 33 straight years from ‘52 to ‘92 sans ‘54.
