In the Class A Sectional Final match, Rye Girls Soccer battled to a 0-0 draw after the end of 80 minutes of regulation play, 20 minutes of overtime play and 10 minutes of golden goal play.

Rye’s senior captain Hannah Bertisch injured her knee in the first ten minutes and senior Alex Verna played a strong game on her absence. Rye’s back line of Isabel Harvey, Reilly Traynor, Despina Sfiris, Mary Sack and Alence Zion didn’t allow any strong scoring opportunities for North.

After playing all the minutes of soccer to a draw, penalty kicks were used to determine the team to advance to the Regional State Tournament. Clarkstown North was perfect on their first 4 shots enabling them to advance in the tournament.

“Rye ended their season with a 19 game unbeaten streak and a sectional title,” said Rye Girls Varsity Soccer Coach Rich Savage. “All the seniors will be missed tremendously as they provided outstanding leadership to the entire team.”
