PD Warns of Tik Tok School Threat for Friday

Rye PD warned about a general threat – not Rye specific – made on the social platform Tic Tok – of potential school shootings and bomb threats which will take place on Friday. School boss Eric Byrne also send the PD message out to the Rye school community (see below), and askeed people to be vigilant.
The Rye PD message:
“City of Rye Police Department received information today that there has been discussion on the social media platform Tik Tok of potential school shootings and bomb threats which will take place on Friday, December 17th. This is a general post and NOT directed at any individual school or location. Investigation is ongoing and the threat is considered low level at this time. It looks to have originated from outside the US. RPD will be increasing patrols in and around the schools.
Again, we want to reiterate that there is NO direct threat to our schools or students.”

A short while ago, The Rye Police Department sent out a community message (attached) regarding reports of rumors of bomb threats and school shootings on December 17 that have been posted on TikTok and other social media platforms. While the threats are not specific to any of the Rye City Schools, out of an abundance of caution, the Rye Police Department has increased patrols in and around the schools and will have officers at each school on Friday, December 17. We are grateful to the Police Department and City for their collaboration with us and their continuous efforts to keep the community safe.
The health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff is our highest priority. Please remember to notify a school administrator or the Rye Police Department if you or your student see or hear anything concerning. Also, please remind your student that posting sensational messages on social media is taken very seriously, is extremely dangerous, and could have significant consequences including school suspension and arrest. Thank you for your support in keeping our schools safe.
