Fight on Purchase Street; Suspects Take Flight
Rye PD was called to a fight in progress Sunday morning on Purchase Street in the vicinity of Ridge Street. Upon arrival, PD witnessed a red-tailed hawk (buteo jamaicensis) in an altercation with a great horned owl (bubo virginianus).
It was likely a dispute over territory. Great horned owls do not build their own nests and are known to take over nesting sites of other birds including red-tailed hawk sites. And we all know Rye real estate is almost always in high demand with multiple bids and many competing offers.
The two winged suspects took flight, fleeing the scene, upon arrival of the Rye PD patrol car.
