In Memory: Elizabeth Catherine (nee Fangman) Maulik, Age 81

Obituary - Elizabeth Catherine (nee Fangman) MaulikBorn July 18, 1940 in Boone, Iowa, Beth was the last of six children. Daughter of Sylvester and Bernadette Fangman. Beth was a Junior High Language Arts teacher and Reading Specialist in Iowa; later the Director of Reading in the North St. Paul/Maplewood school districts. In 1983, she founded and published SCHOOLHOUSE MAGAZINE in Minnesota and Chicago.

Beth passed away March 4, 2022 after long battles with Alzheimer’s and Breast Cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Bernadette Fangman of Carroll, Iowa; siblings, Dr. Charles Fangman (Joan), Miriam Moderhock (Donald), Dr. Thomas Fangman (Ruth), Fr. James and Fr. Robert. She is survived by Roger Maulik, her loving husband of 52 years and children, Peter Maulik (Brigit O’Meara), Zachary Maulik (Kate) and Emily Gainor (John). She has six grandchildren, Gracie, Gus, Meara and Tighe Maulik, and Nolan and Joseph Gainor.

Beth was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She earned a BA in English Education from the University of Iowa and an MA degree from Clark College. She was working on her PHD in Education until the family moved to New York when her husband was transferred by 3M. The family lived in Rye, New York where teaching jobs were nonexistent. She became a travel agent.

When the family returned to Minnesota, she started and published SCHOOLHOUSE MAGAZINE, a resource for families who were relocating. She was a charter volunteer at the Life Care Center in Highland Park and member of its board. Her hobbies were golf, reading, volunteering at church and the Carondelet Village Alzheimer’s unit, the Republican Party, and watching her grandchildren grow.

Mass of Christian Burial 10 AM, Saturday, April 9 at Lumen Christi Catholic Church (2055 Bohland Ave., St. Paul, MN). Visitation one hour prior to the start of Mass at church. Interment, Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to: Sisters of Charity BVM, 1100 Carmel Dr., Dubuque, IA 52003, or Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, 34 Washington St., Suite 310, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481.
