The Osborn’s Sterling Park Residents’ Association had a special guest last Thursday when Rye guy and Westchester County Executive George Latimer came to The Osborn to present at the monthly meeting of about 100 Independent Living residents and staff.

The event was sponsored by The Osborn’s Civics’ committee that works to help provide information about local, county and national elections as well as helping to remove barriers in regard to resident voting. “The Civics Committee wants to be sure that each resident has the information needed to make informed decisions about the issues at the ballot box and has optimal access to casting their votes,” said Frances Snedeker, the newly appointed head of the Sterling Park Civics Committee.

The most costly programs in the county budget are social service assistance programs and running of The Westchester County Department of Correction.

Both residents and staff appreciated the time Mr. Latimer spent presenting to the group and the details he provided about the workings of our county and state governmental process. Mr. Latimer also fielded questions from residents about the state of Westchester including the hot issues of taxes, Westchester County Airport and term limits for local and county officials.
