Remembering the Vet from 39 Grandview Avenue
The Memorial Day Parade was over. And so was the ceremony on the Village Green. The crowd had moved on the BBQs and other events of the day.
American Legion Post 128 Commander Frederick de Barros and Finance Officer / Adjutant Tim Moynihan headed to Rye Recreation to acknowledge the ultimate sacrifice by the veteran from 39 Grandview Avenue.
The flagpole in Rye Recreation near the upper pavilion is a memorial to John F. Shaughnessy Jr., who served the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. Captain Shaughnessy was shot down and perished while on a strafing run in the Mekong Delta on February 3, 1963. He was 30 years old. Read his story.
