Each June Resurrection Parish and Rev. Monsignor Donald M. Dwyer awards a $2,000 scholarship. This year, Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, who was in Rye for Tom Murphy’s funeral service, personally congratulated Michael Lavelle, 18, as the 2022 Resurrection scholarship recipient.
The award goes to a young person who puts their faith into practice and is an exemplary role model who has excelled in academics and athletics. “Michael volunteered this past year as a sixth grade PREP teacher on Sunday mornings,” The Church of the Resurrection said in a statement. “He attended PREP classes here as a young child and is a long-time parishioner of Resurrection Church. He played football, lacrosse and squash at Rye High School. This fine, young man of many talents will be attending Villanova University in the fall. We wish Michael God’s choicest blessings in all his future endeavors.”
