Rotary Club of Rye Names New Officers, Thomas is President

The Rotary Club of Rye announced its new slate of officers for 2022-2023. Michele Thomas of Osborn Home Care was installed as the new president on June 29, 2022 during a ceremony at Wainwright House overlooking the Long Island Sound.

Michele Thomas has been a Rotary member for the past three years and most recently served as vice president of the Club. Thomas was instrumental in bringing the Ryesabove art exhibit to the village green, and also served as an active volunteer for the club including time on Mistletoe Magic, the African American Cemetery clean up, the Rye Beach clean up and Rotary Feeds the Sound Shore annual food drive. She also helped collect and distribute PPE to community organizations that needed it during COVID.

“This year’s Rotary International theme is Imagine, and I can’t help but be excited about all the opportunities available to us to help our community when we expand our thoughts and imagine new possibilities,” said Thomas. In addition to her work with the Rotary, she is a community volunteer, having recently served as President of SPRYE and continues to serve on The Rye City Senior Advisory Committee.

Other officers named for the current term include Lauren Torres as president elect, Cathy DeMartino as vice president, Cathy Garr as secretary and Bob Manheimer as treasurer. Additionally, Melanie Ciraco, Richard Flahive, Jon Gluck and Richard Sgaglio were sworn in as directors.

In its 60th year in Rye, the Rotary Club hopes to continue its longstanding tradition of service within the Rye Community and beyond. The Rye club is one of approximately 32,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries. The Rye Rotary Club provides annual scholarships at Rye High School as well as other grants and awards throughout the community.
